When Mental Health isn't just mental

Feedback from a recent assessment to prep for a training in the mental health sector:

'You've done an excellent job with your responses, demonstrating empathy, cultural awareness, risk recognition, and an understanding of professional boundaries. Your answers reflect a compassionate, client-centred approach to support work and show a strong foundation of knowledge across key mental health and community services topics.'

After 14 years of self study and many, many qualifications, it's frustrating when certain things are only recognised under the AQF system. I have received two unit credits for this though.

Hopefully I've got the skills, and done the prior legwork to make working through this easier as I can find online learning difficult these days. Life is busy.

I've also been training at a WA Recovery College Educator, funded by the WA Mental Health Commission. I love this course and system as it recognises lived experience, experiential learning and makes room for everyone. You don't need to be something else to be involved, just you. It's been taking me deep into the world of privilege and social injustice, so lots of personal development for me, and I'll be able to take my BodyTalk skills of respecting everyone as a unique person with their perspectives into this.

Here's to learning more about the systems I do my best to avoid, I know I'll be able to use this information to help others navigate their own journeys better.

I'm also hoping it will bring me some more consistent work, the ups and downs of being a micro business outside of the system in an ever changing world has it's amazing moments and it's difficulties.

The essence of this post isn’t to trigger guilt, in fact the whole day was about freedoms from fear, but rather to let you know how much you matter and how much of an impact you make on a micro busine
